Ajahn Munindo

Venerable Munindo (Keith Morgan) was born in 1951, in New Zealand. He first encountered Buddhism at the age of 19 which had a profound impact on him. During a visit to Australia in 1972, he was encouraged to attend a meditation retreat led by Venerable Khantipalo.

After living for a while on a community at Mullumbimby he left Australia in 1973 with the idea of ultimately reaching Japan to practise Zen. He taught English for a while in Bangkok and met Ajahn Sumedho and some Western monks from Wat Bovoronives, where he eventually decided to become a novice.

He was ordained as a monk by Phra Somdet Nanasamvara in 1974, and spent his first Vassa with Ajahn Thate at Wat Hin Mark Peng, on Laotian border.

After a period in a Bangkok hospital with serious health problems, he met Ajahn Sumedho again, and went to Wat Pa Nanachat, which had begun a few months earlier. He was re-ordained at Wat Nong Pah Pong by Ajahn Chah in 1975.

Due to ill health he returned to New Zealand for six months in 1979. In 1980 he travelled to England to join the community at Chithurst. He was given the responsibility of establishing a monastery in Devon, in southwast of England.

In 1987 he returned to Chithurst Monastery and then moved to Harnham, Aruna Ratanagiri Monastery in Northumberland since 1991 where he is presently abbot.
